Liz presents images in this presentation that are deliberately confrontational, provocative and emotive. The image and the performance behind it emerged from a series of coincidences and she wanted to begin by setting it in context.
She explains that her video coincided with the upcoming launch of the Resistance project in 2009. The installation set out to make visible the historical events of Aktion T4, the Nazi system of the mass murder of disabled people, and disabled people’s resistance to it, in particular the resistance of one woman. But crucially to also look at the values underpinning history that still has meaning for us today.
Liz’s installation contained a series of multimedia works. First was an historical drama, a film set in a selection centre where disabled people were chosen to go to one of the death centres.
There follows a debate between the artists involved in the project manifesting as a group response.
