German Contributor Presentation: Dirk Sorge

Part of Brave New World Exhibition

Last year there was an action day for the museum of blinding arts in Leipzig together with the gallery for contemporary arts. Disabled people questioned how museums interacted with bodies that were not considered to be the norm, or did not live up to specific expectations – whatever that means!

The museum of blinding arts addresses visual impairment and blindness. In many European museums there are a lot of pictures, paintings, cultural artefacts spanning over 500 years that depict Blind people in a very stereotypical way. They are presented in a way to be deficientary (stet) or faulty with a strong connection to religious topics that tells a certain story or shows a certain message … Dirk’s videos focus on this.

Response to Dirk Sorge’s presentation from fellow artists.
