I am a disabled writer, performance poet and standup, a leading figure in the disability arts movement. I am exploring the development of that movement, and current tensions between established and emerging artists. This research will use my techniques of transcription poetry, a working practice developed with the support of Disability Arts Online, (DAO). As part of our research we are producing a series of workshops with emerging artists, which will add to their career development.
In the later stages of the project, I shall be giving live performances of the poetry arising from the work, and working with Colin on a piece of digital artwork based on the poetry.I am working closely with Co-Investigator Colin Hambrook both in his capacity as disabled artist and writer, and as Editor of DAO, and with the Director of DAO, Trish Wheatley. We shall be working with a series of established and emerging disability artists, and with organisations including Shape and the National Disability Arts Collection and Archive (NDACA).
